Land next to the railroad in Nashville is the site where businesses can drop off products for rail shipment all over the country. They are calling this process, transloading.

Transloading is there to supply a cheaper shipping option for businesses that don’t own land on the tracks.

Rocky Mount Telegram quoted Ronnie McKenzie, senior vice president of Gulf & Ohio Railways, which owns Nash County Railroad by saying the new transloading center is, “The railroad of the future. We guarantee to save you money.”

This is an important feature to have for small business owners because it allows them a different shipping option other than trucking, which at times is quite expensive.

Products dropped off at the transloading location in Nashville can be shipped all over the world.

“Frozen chickens dropped off at a transloading site in Troy, Alabama even end up in Vietnam. They are first delivered by rail to Chicago, then on another railroad line to California, and then shipped to Vietnam,” said McKenzie to the Rocky Mount Telegram.

Chicago business owners should find out how to save money by utilizing the rail system during this tough economic time.
