Have you received your memo at work yet about HINI... the dreaded swine flu? Maybe you've opened the global email from HR with FAQs about the disease. Or the notice with some bullet points on how to reduce your risk of infection. Perhaps where you work it's all just talk. It's big news, though, and with every new headline, speculation about the disease continues to swirl at the water cooler.

Wherever you are on the communication continuum about this pandemic, you may flinch every time you hear someone sneeze or cough. Or every time you cough. You are newly aware of every ache and pain you have and observe that people around you are seeing a doctor for their symptoms just in case.

Here's some good news/bad news about this: the Baltimore health deparment senior administrator I spoke to noted that swine flu cases will likely decrease as the weather gets warmer (just like other influenzas). The bad news from his perspective is that now that swine flu is "here" it isn't going away. It's part of the seasonal ups and downs of flu outbreaks (although the actual swine flu season has not been fully described yet).

The good news is that a vaccination is probably being developed as we speak.

Stay healthy!
