ABC's Eastwick

Don’t call it Charmed. Don’t call it Desperate Housewives meets Harry Potter, and don’t compare it toothe book or the movie. At least that’s what the stars Sara Rue and Lindsay Price told Sci Fi Wire. If that’s the case audiences have to wonder exactly what is Eastwick?

ABC describes it as:

In the seaside village of Eastwick, three very different women are about to discover some bewitching talents they never knew they had. Roxie is the extrovert artist, Kat the overworked wife and mom, and Joanna the wallflower local reporter. When the mysterious Darryl Van Horne arrives in town, he helps them discover their unique powers in ways they never could have imagined.

Jamie Ray Newman plays Kat Gardener, Price plays Joanna Frankel, Rebecca Romijn is Roxanne (Roxie) Torcoletti, and Rue plays Joanna's best friend, Penny Higgins. Paul Gross is Darryl Van Horne."

When asked how the TV series relates to the movie, Paul Gross told Melissa Parker the following:

Well, it’s a more modern evolution of it, I suppose. It started with the Updike novel and then the film… this one is a different configuration. It has many similar qualities. Maggie Freeman is the creator of the show.”

It’s still hard not to think of this show as Desperate Housewives with magic. However, Jamie Ray Newman (Kat) was a fun addition to Eureka, so it may be worth it to see her take on how an overworked mom handles discovering magical powers. Eastwick premieres on Wednesday, September 23 at 9c on ABC.
