Season three of Heroes started slow, but when Bryan Fuller returned ended strong. In a finale where Hiro is obviously quite ill, Nathan Patrelli dies (again), and Matt Parkman defeats Sylar there were already a few hints as to where the next season is headed. This season will include Prison Break’s Robert Knepper, and Ray Park (Star Wars Episode I, X-Men) as members of the Carnivale which will provide the major conflict for the upcoming season, according to The Deadbolt.
Not only is there a new batch of antagonists, but with a tight budget much of the focus will have to be on character. This means that there will be a great deal of smaller conflicts that will be a major part of season 4. Hints have been dropped as to the nature of several of these conflicts.
Adrian Pasadar told E! Online that about a major storyline that occurs for the characters of Matt, Sylar and Nathan (well sort of Nathan). Nathan will have a lot to discover about himself, as he isn’t really himself but Sylar. This results in an interesting conflict that the audience will be well aware of long before Patrelli figures it out. Nathan isn’t the only one affected. Greg Grunberg admits:
When I [Matt] did the mind transfer, it didn't go clean. Some of him [Sylar] stayed in me and he needs me. He's looking for his body, he needs his body back and he'll do anything to do that, including kidnapping my son." What should be interesting is how well Pasadar manages to incorporate some of Sylar’s trademarks so we can enjoy seeing the internal conflict emerge in a physical way.
James Kyson Lee said:
Ando and Hiro are going to start up a new business venture. It's going to keep us busy. Sept. 21 you will see a huge billboard. I am for hire, romance for hire. Hiro has a bucket list because he's dying. Ando is trying to change that, but we'll see. There's a whole theme of 'Can you really mess with fate?' in our show. Sometimes you can change history, sometimes you can't."
When The Deadbolt asked about whether or not Hiro will die, Masi Oka responded:
I can. I mean, it would be a very bold move. I don’t think anything has been set in stone yet, to be honest with you. We don’t know which way we’re going. At the same time, we already have our Kenny from South Park on our show: that’s Nathan Petrelli. I can guarantee that Nathan Petrelli will die this season finale. It just happens. Every season finale Nathan will die.”
And for the most sensational season 4 news what will Claire’s relationship with her college roommate be? Hayden Panattiere had this to say to Underwire:
My roommate Gretchen is a confidante and somebody Claire can tell her secrets to, who knew, who would be there for her and who she could trust. And she hasn’t had anyone like that…. This new character Gretchen, who becomes my roommate, comes along, and she becomes that person for me. And it’s a very interesting relationship because there’s a little bit of a flirting with the whole “Are we friends? Are we more? Like, do I have feelings for you in that way?” So, that’s the relationship so far, and where exactly it’s going I have no idea.”
