ABC

ABC has picked up the pilot for a new series that is a reboot of V. The original series aired in 1984-85, and began as a mini-series, V: The Final Battle, that went on despite the finality of the title. The science fiction series centered around a alien race referred to as the Visitors and their plans for the Earth. In spite of a strong cult following, NBC cancelled this series after one season, surprising producers who had written a cliff-hanger season finale. Thus fans have been waiting more than twenty years for answers.

The new series doesn’t take off exactly where the old left off. The new V series follows a Homeland Security agent trying to deal with the arrival of an alien species. The sneak peak pays direct homage to the original series in a scene that has already been often mistaken as being from Independence Day. Also shown is a fight scene that ends with the peeling back of apparently human skin to reveal the reptilian Visitor underneath.

4400 creator Scott Peters will produce the series in conjunction with Scott Hall. Stars include Scott Wolf (Party of Five), Morena Baccarin (Serenity, Stargate SG-1), Joel Gretsch (4400), and Elizabeth Mitchell (LOST) among many others. This series definitely has the acting potential to be a very deep, character driven show. If the writing team can give them the scripts the rest should fall into place. V is expected to be a serious contender when it premiers midseason in 2010.
