The Free Press Summer Fest will take place August 8th and 9th at Eleanor Tinsley Park on Buffalo Bayou with a portion of the proceeds benefitting Project Row Houses. The two day event has a great lineup and will feature more than 50 national and local acts performing on two stages.
Among the artists scheduled to appear are Broken Social Scene, Explosions In The Sky, Of Montreal, Prince Paul, Devin The Dude, The Watermarks, The Ton Tons, Young Mammals, Octopus Project, The Hates, Los Skarnales, and Southern Backtones. Click here for the full schedule with performance times.
The events for both days will run from Noon to 10 pm. Festival goers are encouraged to ride their bikes and it is also suggested that you bring a blanket to sit on and wear your swimsuit. It may be that the organizers just want to see you in your swimsuit, but there will be an area for water gun and water balloon battles. Plenty of sunscreen would also be a good idea.
In addition to water fights and live music, there will be artists selling their work, a craft beer garden, games, and cooling tents. Admission is $10 for a one day pass and $16 for both days. If you want to feel special, you can purchase a “fancy pants” two day pass for $45. That will get you 20 bucks worth of food and drink vouchers and fancy pants tent entry to the cash bar and cooling areas along with shorter lines for concessions and port-a-potties. If you’re more highfalutin than what the fancy pants pass offers, then you must be a “high roller”. For $100 the high roller two day pass will get you into a private air-conditioned tent where you can laugh at the peasants while you enjoy your complimentary food and free swag. You’ll also have access to a private premium bar. Click here for a list of ticket locations or you can buy online.
