Tori’s 2001 album Strange Little Girls was a collection of songs originally recorded by men. Tori created a separate persona for each song, performing them from a female perspective. Using wigs, makeup and clothing to create each character, she was photographed in her various personas with four of the photos being used as individual album covers.
Many of her fans went as far as purchasing all four covers just as Led Zeppelin fans had tried to do when In Through The Out Door was released six different covers in 1979. Of course, it was more difficult for Zeppelin fans as that album was concealed in a brown paper bag to prevent one fans from knowing which cover they were getting.
While there were no official singles, a commercial single of Strange Little Girl (The Stranglers) was available for a very short time in Europe before being recalled. The release has become a rare collector’s item mostly because it contains two additional songs: After All (David Bowie) and Only Women Bleed (Alice Cooper).
