Gerhardt ‘Jerry’ Fuchs, a drummer known for his work with several indie rock bands including The Juan Maclean, Maserati and !!! (pronounced ‘chk chk chk’) died tragically Sunday morning after leaving a party at a residential building in Brooklyn, New York. According to ABC News, the 34-year-old musician tried to jump from a broken elevator, but fell down the five story shaft when his clothing became caught on something. Fuchs was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Fuchs had just recently completed a tour with Maserati. In addition to his work as a drummer, he was also a graphic designer for Chunklet and a freelance writer for Entertainment Weekly. Fuchs is the second former drummer of !!! to die in a tragic accident. The group’s original drummer Mikel Gius died in 2005 when he was hit by a car while riding his bike.
Maserati has posted the following message on their website in remembrance of their friend:
“It is with overwhelming sadness that we bid farewell to our drummer and dearest friend Gerhardt (Jerry) Fuchs. Jerry died in a tragic accident early this morning (Sunday, November 08, 2009) when he fell down an elevator shaft near his home in Brooklyn, NY. We are humbled to have been able to create music with you for all these years, Jerry. You will be missed more than words can express. We love you, bro.”
Chunklet has published an extensive article remembering Jerry Fuchs and will provide information regarding funeral arrangements as it becomes available.
