Taylor Swift will host Saturday Night Live for the first time this weekend and will also perform as the show’s musical guest. On Monday night, prior to her first meeting with the SNL writers, Taylor appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and shared a story about growing up on a Christmas Tree farm when she was five years old. She also asked the former SNL cast member for advice as a first-time host of SNL. Here’s what Jimmy had to say:
“My advice is try everything. Don’t over think anything. Try it all. Go for it, try every single thing. Be nice to the writers. I would bring them sandwiches and pizzas and stuff. Whatever you can do to make the writers stay on your side, ‘cause it’s all about the writing.”
Jimmy went on to discuss the process behind the show’s Tuesday night meeting when writers pitch their sketch ideas to the host and importance of laughing at even the worst ideas. During her previous appearance on SNL, Taylor played Angry Orphan Annie in a sketch about Broadway and for her appearance this weekend, she has some ideas of her own that she will be presenting to the writers. Viewers will definitely be expecting some sort of parody based on the Kanye West incident at the VMAs and while we will have to wait and see if that makes it onto the show, the topic did make it's way into one of the SNL promos featured below:
