Senator Ken Salazar will be named Interior Secretary in President-elect Barack Obama's administration, the Rocky Mountain News is reporting.

The Interior Secretary is responsible for much of America's public lands, particularly areas vulnerable to (or ripe for, depending on your viewpoint) oil drilling and mineral extraction. Salazar is a natural fit for the position, he once served as head of the state Department of Natural Resources under former Gov. Roy Romer.

So now the guessing game begins as to whom Gov. Bill Ritter will appoint to Salazar's senate seat. John Hickenlooper? Andrew Romanoff? Diana Degette? Salazar's brother, John?
