* 3rd District Congressman John Salazar is reportedly on the shortlist to be named Agriculture Secretary in the Barack Obama's Cabinet. Former U.S. Rep. Charles Stenholm of Texas, once the ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee, names Salazar as the frontrunner for the position.

* Speculation has already begun as to who would run for Salazar's seat in the event that he is named to the cabinet. State Republicans are optimistic that they can take the seat back, the list of names is topped by Republican State Rep. Josh Penry and former Democrat State Rep. Bernie Tauscher. Republican Scott McInnis, who used to hold the seat, has taken his name out of contention.

* The Denver Post is reporting that transportation projects will be the number one priority in the upcoming legislative session.

* Newsweek columnist Jonathan Alter is reporting that Denver Public Schools Superintendent Michael Bennet is at the top of Obama's list to be named U.S. Secretary of Education.
