As the stench of dead elephants spreads nationwide, Republicans in Colorado are crawling over each other like rats on a sinking ship. And Marilyn Musgrave, almost down, almost out, has shown that she won't be leaving quietly:
*Musgrave has now gone officially beyond the pale with a new ad that shows a Betsy Markey impersonator being given a lie detector test. The only reason this ad hasn't gained more national attention is that it's not quite as stupidly evil as Elizabeth Dole's desperate ad in North Carolina that portrays her opponent Kay Hagan, a Sunday school teacher, as an atheist. I always knew that the downfall of the "Permanent Republican Majority" would be entertaining, and for the most part, these people have not disappointed. Still... I always thought there would be at least one televised breakdown, one or two physical assaults, maybe even a suicide. There's still three days to go before the election... one can only hope.
*Chris Cillizza's "The Fix" blog in the Washington Post has ranked Musgrave as the 8th most likely congressional incumbent to lose on election day.
*Former Grand Junction Representative Scott McInnis is making noises on behalf of the more moderate wing of the Colorado Republican party, specifically going after Bob Schaffer and his campaign manager Dick Wadhams. This is a microcosm of what is happening all over America in regards to the GOP, the most high-stakes battle being the tug of war between Mitt Romney (whose former aides, working for McCain now, have likely been the source of anti-Palin leaks in the campaign) and Sarah Palin for the heart and soul of the party.
*And finally, Schaffer and Wadhams, in an act of complete desperation that had no potential for payoff to begin with, have created a fake donor to give money to Udall's campaign, in order to illustrate... I don't even know what, exactly.
