At sea as part of the "code of ethics" the captain of a ship is suppose to be the last on off when the ship is headed to the bottom. With the breaking news of Sarah Palin leaving office early one must question whether she is violating this code herself.
The decision by Palin is a puzzling one seeing how she could have easily simply announced she was not running for re-election and then sought presidential sought presidential after serving her full term. As things sit now people are questioning what the motivations are behind her leaving early. One theory to be discussed in this article is that Palin is leaving before things go badly for her and the rest of the state in the coming months.
A couple of stories give support to the theory that Palin is getting out while she can. First, the major natural gas pipeline which has been a sort of Palin pet project is coming increasingly under fire as not economically viable. T. Boone Pickens recently questioned the development when looking at the amount of natural gas in the Arctic coast compared to the natural gas in the continental United States. Should the project be stopped or prove to be an economic disaster it could be very damning for Palin and the state of Alaska. Secondly, Palin's approval ratings within the state have come down significantly recently. Instead of seeing an approval rating in the 90's Palin's approval rating now hover in the 50's as Alaskans become increasingly frustrated with her focus on issues outside Alaska.
What may be really scary for Alaskans are the stories that may be out there that no one is reporting right now. is the state's budget still sound after the variation in energy prices? Has the Governor's office done something else along the lines of a state trooper firing? Only time will tell us the truth behind Governor Palin's early departure but in the meantime Alaskans and the world wait anxiously to find out the truth.
