New polling data suggests Judge Sotomayor's confirmation chances took a hit to go along with her overturned ruling in the New Haven case.  According to a Rasmussen poll Sotomayor's support remains predictably strong among democrats and weak among republicans.  Democrats favor confirmation by a 4-1 margin while republicans oppose the confirmation by a 3-1 margin.

Where Judge Sotomayor has really taken a hit is among independents.  The Rasmussen poll reveals that among those who do not call themselves either a republican or a democrat only 23% favor confirmation while 49% oppose.  Finally, 46% of voters believe Judge Sotomayor is a liberal while 32% would call her moderate.

Clearly the GOP strategy of making Judge Sotomayor out to be a radical is working among independents.  Republicans were never really going to accept this nominee and democrats were likely never going to abandon her.  Independents were the key swing population.  News of New Haven reversal along with an effective GOP media campaign against have clearly hurt public support for Judge Sotomayor's confirmation.
