If people were wondering why Glenn Beck is still on the air after losing more than sixty of his sponsors they now have an answer. The owner of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, said in a recent interview that Beck was right when he called President Obama a "racist" with a "deep-seeded hatred for white people."
Beck's comments came after President Obama said the Cambridge Police Department acted "stupidly" in arresting Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. at his home. The President subsequently apologized for the comment and the story eventually went away after the Beer Summit. Beck attacked the President for criticizing the white police officer while seemingly defending Professor Gates.
Liberals however did not see any justification for such strong statements toward the President. Color of Change and Media Matters viewed Beck's accusation as blatant race-baiting and organized a boycott of Beck which eventually led to Beck having a much smaller and less prestigious sponsor list.
By reiterating Beck's comments Rupert Murdoch signals that Beck and others at Fox News have nothing to worry about if they criticize President Obama in such manner. Murdoch's net worth is around $6.7 billion according to Forbes so he can afford to lose a few sponsors if it suits his political wishes.
