Infamous for incredible snow and even better skiing, Coloradoans have been looking for a new way to show their pride. 4,500 locals have petitioned for a skier/rider license plate in order to flaunt their love for Colorado skiing and snowboarding. Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) has collected these signatures over the past several years in order to prompt the Department of Revenue to move ahead with a ski plate. To give consent for specialized plates, the Department of Revenue requires a minimum of 3,000 signatures; thanks to CSCUSA’s efforts, the necessary threshold has been reached.

Currently CSCUSA and the Department of Revenue are working together to design a license plate illustrating a skier and snowboarder riding the Rocky Mountains under a cloudless blue sky.
Although New York and Idaho already offer ski themed license plates, Colorado will be the first to represent both skiers and snowboarders. The plate will not only increase exposure for Colorado skiing, but earn money to improve Colorado roads and bridges. Colorado could expect at least $30,000 revenue in the first year from the sale of the $50 plates.
But first, the Senate and House must pass the bill to approve a ski plate. Senator Dan Gibbs who sponsors the bill believes the decision will be an easy one. “Skiing is not only Colorado’s best-known winter sport, it is what Colorado is known for all year-round.”
Colorado cars already scream skiing and snowboarding with ski racks, mud-soaked fenders, and goggles hanging from the rearview mirror. The only thing missing is a specialized ski plate boasting our love for Colorado’s favorite pastime.
