Lincoln officially announced at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance that it would build a new crossover model called the MKT, but Cadillac trumped that with a sneak peek at the 2010 edition of its luxury crossover, the SRX, at Pebble, and unveiled the 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon at the California classic car show for high rollers.
The official intro of the new SRX will occur at a major auto show later this year, but GM gave a look at exactly how the ’10 Cadillac crossover will look when it goes on sale in mid-2009. The new SRX will have a sleeker overall appearance
than the current CTS but perhaps the most noticeable change will be a rising character line down its side. Cadillac deferred all tech specifications until the vehicle’s official launch. The SRX will continue as a sportier, five-seat vehicle as opposed to the more van-like (sorry, Lincoln) seven-passenger MKT.
Cadillac made it a one-two punch at Pebble Beach with unveiling of the production version of the 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon, a sophisticated updating of the station wagon using the
CTS sport sedan as its basis. Not surprisingly, the dimensions of the sedan and wagon will be similar and styling will be the same except for the differences a wagon makes; available drivetrains will be the same as well.

The CTS Sport Wagon will be the first station wagon in GM’s premiere marque’s history. Dodge recently attempted to revive the wagon concept with the Dodge Magnum, similar but for the skin to the Dodge Charger; however sales fell short of expectations and the model was terminated (rightly or wrongly) by Chrysler’s new post-Daimler management. No doubt Cadillac took a close look at the Magnum's brief history before proceeding with this project. "Just because we're Cadillac" is no guarantee for success, though the Sport Wagon does leverage the existing CTS line, as will the CTS Sport Coupe shown at this year's Detroit auto show. Cadillac's German rivals, Mercedes-Bez, BMW and Audi, have also sold wagons in the US with some degree of success. We'll know whether Cadillac is overreaching with the CTS Sport Wagon when it hits the market next year.
