Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 reveal

The next time you’re on the autostrada between Salerno and Reggio Calabria, or in central and southern Italy in general, be aware that not only is it impossible to outrun radio, it’s also unlikely that you’ll get away from a certain Lamborghini Gallardo painted in blu Polizia, with white stripes and lettering that might as well say “Yo’ in a heap o’ trubble, boy,” except in Italian, of course.

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia, the view you don't want in your rearview mirrorLamborghini has donated then newest version of its Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia, to the Italian State Police, replacing an earlier version that has been on duty since 2004, logging more than 87,000 miles and countless donuts in service with Rome’s police force. Another Gallardo has been in service around Bologna since 2005 and has covered more than 62,000 miles in pursuit of bad guys and the perfect cruller.

The Lamborghini LP560-4 Polizia is powered by a 5.2-liter 560 horsepower V-10 engine mounted amidships behind the driver and has a claimed top speed of 203 mph. But in addition to exceptional sports car credentials, the all-wheel drive LP560-4 has the latest law enforcement equipment, including automatic number plate recognition technology and GPS-link video recording that not only records a miscreant in action but also provides GPS-determined speed information and of course location. There’s even a removable screen so the police can show the transgressors their misdeeds.

There, the videos are stored and used for automatic number plate retrieval. This information can be used for immediate identification of stolen vehicles.”

Lamborghini says that in addition to such high-tech equipment, the Gallardo Polizia has a gun holster, regular radio equipment and even the Paletta, the traditional hand-held stop sign used to pull drivers over.

The Lamborghini is also equipped with a specially refrigerated compartment for transfer of donor organs, and there’s a defribulator on board to handle the effects of being pulled over by a blue Lamborghini with a special aerodynamic blue light on the roof (blue LED lights are also used for an unmistakable alert). Four sirens are mounted front and rear.

Only 30 lucky police officers are authorized to drive the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia. All receive driver training from Lamborghini test driver and instruction on the use of the medical equipment.

There’s no mention of what will happen to the Gallardo Polizia being retired but we’ll bet you can forget any Blues Brothers imitations, even if it does have a cop motor, cop tires, cop suspensions, and cop shocks. It may indeed be the new Bluesmobile (or what) but it ain’t gonna happen, even if you’re on a mission from God.

It’s time to take the Italian State Police entrance exam. Do you speak Italian?
