The 'New Grand Bentley' teaser photo...and a little more info

The promised replacement for the venerable Bentley Arnage, as we mentioned in our article on the
Arnage Final Series article last fall, is nigh, and Bentley has released a teaser photo of what they are calling the Grand Bentley.
The forthcoming Grand Bentley will occupy the same metaphorical space as the Arnage, or to use the official Bentley verbiage, it will be “positioned at the very pinnacle of the market – representing the height of British luxury motoring.”
It wouldn’t be a teaser if Bentley told us very much, but we have been told that the Grand Bentley will be all-new, even including the drivetrain. That means it will not be the W-12 used in the Continental series, and because Bentleys have been powered by V-8 engines for fifty years, we believe the Grand Bentley will be powered by another, if all-new, V-8. And because the new Bentley luxury sedan will have to equal the performance of the current top Arnage, the engine would likely require turbocharging to produce the 500 horsepower of the final development of the first V-8. We also expect direct injection.
We expect the new Grand Bentley will have the same imposing presence as the Arnage, which measures 212 inches in length with a 122 inch wheelbase, standing just less than six feet high. We would be surprised, however, if the Grand Bentley weighed as much as the Arnage’s 5,700 lbs, thanks to the certain increased application of high strength steel and other lightweight metals and materials.
The current Bentley Arnage is priced around $225,000 to $270,000 and beyond if sufficiently massaged by Bentley’s Mulliner bespoke trim division, depending on specific model and trim choices.
Of course, if Bentley considers matching the Rolls-Rocye Phantom stroke for stroke, all bets are off, as the Phantom starts around $100,000 more than the Bentely Arnage and the Phantom is larger as well.
There is, however, one thing we do know, and that’s that Grand Bentley is not what it will be named. Calling it “the Bentley Grand Bentley” would be rather silly. Rather, Bentley is withholding the actual name, like any proud parents, until the new car makes its worldwide debut “this summer”…at an undisclosed location and time. One can make one’s own speculation. Pebble Beach? Maybe, maybe not.
We don’t know yet because Bentley won’t say. That’s just one more tease, the whole purpose of which is to get us writing and you reading before the real thing arrives. And if you’re still reading…it worked.
