There are many definitions of “expert” and most of them not very complementary. So it’s undoubtedly difficult for General Motors staff to welcome the government experts in town to evaluate how well they’ve been doing with the taxpayer’s dollars.

Experts? Consider that one team member is Carol Browner, the Obama adminstration’s climate guru, who until recently—that is, until the president tapped yher for her current position—was one of fourteenleaders of Socialist International's Commission for a Sustainable World Society . Don’t look for her name there now. Apparently SI doesn’t wish to blow her cover.

But setting aside for the moment Mr. Obama’s apparent lack of vetting Ms. Browner’s background—asuming of course that Mr. Obama would not wish to have an avowed socialist in a position of importance on his administration—it’s difficult to see what oversight Ms. Browner would be able to contribute to evaluating General Motors’ financial wellbeing.

The remainder of Mr. Obama’s team is similarly ignorant of not only the automotive industry but bring little business experience to their task.

One shouldn’t be surprised, perhaps, at the rather terse “welcome” given to the team by General Motors:

“We were pleased to host the Task Force so they could experience firsthand the new products and technologies that are an integral part of GM's near- and long-term competitiveness. We look forward to continuing to support the efforts of the Task Force as they move quickly to address their critical tasks. We believe today's visit provided a constructive glimpse of GM people, their passion for their work, and the future products and technologies that are an integral part of our viability plan."

It must be difficult to type with one hand while holding your nose with the other.
