2008 Lincoln MKT conceptFord will use the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance—the top “car show” for classic cars—this weekend to announce that a production version of the Lincoln MKT concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show last January will go into production.

The MKT concept was a 3-row luxury crossover capable of seating up to seven passengers and the production version will follow that basic layout. The styling should be close to the concept’s as well, in keeping with Lincoln’s current design theme. The MKT will be built on the same platform as Ford’s Flex crossover, which means that there will be substantial differences between the Lincoln and the two-box Ford.

The new Lincoln will be powered by a conventional 3.7-liter V-6, or a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 rated at 340-hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. EcoBoost cLincoln MKT badgeombines direct fuel injection and turbocharging.

The Pebble Beech announcement will not include a peek at the new vehicle, however. That will have to wait until the Los Angeles Auto Show this fall.

Of course, we’ve seen something like the MKT before, the Mercedes-Benz R-Class and the Chrysler Pacifica. The latter was recently terminated; the R-Class hasn’t been a sales blockbuster for M-B. Those two vehicles have/had six seats in three rows; the MKT’s seventh seat won’t likely make a difference in appeal.

Lincoln has been on a roll of late, so it will be interesting to see how the MKT fares in Lincoln dealer’s showrooms.
