The new 2010 Ford Mustang gets a new old look inside as well as out. The dash has the “double cockpit” concept of the original first generation Mustang but with, well, a 21st century look…and not, we might add, the Ford Falcon instrument panel of the earliest Mustangs.

The Mustang’s optional MyColor system allows the driver to select which color the instruments and ambient lighting will display. By mixing and matching base colors there are 125 different color options.

Call it a mood ring on wheels, except you get to choose the mood. Even the gauges can be set to different colors.

The instrument panel is a one-piece design made from soft-touch TPO (thermoplastic olefin) skin. Aluminum—real aluminum—panels are an option.

Seats will be available in two cloth colors, plus Saddle leather and three other leather colors with contrasting accent stripes.

The 2010 Ford Mustang will the quietest yet. "It's much more vault-like," says Mustang Vehicle Engineering manager Tom Barnes. Not that it will be confused with a Lexus LS, however. "But we maintained the signature Mustang sound," he claims. We'll have to decide exactly what that means when we drive it.
But an automobile is more than just an exterior to look at or sit in: Next, the mechanical bits.
