With the fall season fully upon us, it's time to get your paddles ready as wine auctions are in full swing. If you are new to the auction scene, this previous article will provide you with tips and tricks on how to bid like a pro.
Having kicked off its auction calendar with an early Fall auction at the end of September, Zachy's next auction is scheduled for November 12-14. The three-day event has a heavy emphasis on Italian wines, which is appropos of its Del Posto location (85 Tenth Avenue, NYC) of the Batali/Bastianich empire. The auction begins Thursday evening at 6:30 PM with a BYO, 7-course dinner and continues on Friday evening with a White Truffle Gala Dinner. Acker Merrall & Condit has returned to Cru (24 Fifth Avenue, NYC) for its auctions with the next one titled, On Hallowed Ground" due to its proximity to Halloween (the auction is scheduled for Wednesday, November 28 at 4:30 PM). The auction includes the usual suspects (Bordeaux, California, Barolo, etc.) as well as a strong emphasis on Burgundy.
Christie's will host an auction on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 10:00 AM at its 20 Rockefeller Plaza location. The sale includes Bordeaux and Burgundy (with a number of DRC lots) along with a special consignment of spirits from Park Avenue Liquor Shop. Registered bidders will be treated to a complimentary brunch with Champagne provided by Ayala.
