Street Sweeper Social Club

Street Sweeper Social Club released their debut album today. And, the recordings prove to all that SSSC lives up to the hype that they produced as opening act for the NIN/JA tour. Morello returns on bass to stir up inner aggresion while Boots Riley supplies enticing chants to rally up the audiences. Morello explains that this is all part of the plan to invite audience members to join their social club. Their revoluntary jams are a call to action for audience members to fight the injustices that continue to plague our world.

Perk up your ears and prepare your vocal chords because it's time for that one massive voice to stand out from the others to make some changes in this world. The duo is simply leading the way. Enjoy part two of the interview with Tom Morello

Examiner: What have you enjoyed most about touring with NIN and Jane's Addiction?
Morello:
There's a great comraderie. I've known Perry Farrell since 1988. We've had a lot of good times and we've suffered with each other a lot in the alleys of Hollywood back in the day. It's pretty amazing that NIN formed in 1989. The first Rage album came out in 1990. For these old friends to be able to play to 15-18,000 people a night, I think it's a testament to the great work of NIN and Jane's Addiction. We're very happy to be opening the show.

Examiner: It's great to see that you guys have held on for so long within this industry. But, I guess I'm curious as to where you see the industry going within the next couple of years?
Morello:
It's hard to say cause there's no real model for how people are going to get records. Now that music is as free as water, as far as artists go, it's a responsibility for them to try to think of new ways of being paid for music. My responsibility is just to make the music that I love and believe in and hopefully an audience will find it.

Examiner: With the economy the way that it is, people aren't able to go to shows as often as they used to. Have you seen any difference in the audience besides size as a result of the poor economy?
Morello:
How it affects musicians directly is that people have less money for concert tickets. We haven't seen that on this tour, though. I mean these shows have sold out or are nearly sold out. I think that if you provide the kind of show with bands that have such a history and legacy - people will come to it. They'll pay for reasonable tickets. Selfishly, fortunately I get in to the shows free but I love watching NIN and Jane's Addiction from the side of the stage.

Examiner: Your radio show has been doing really well and you feature bands that you are currently listening to. Who are some of the rising acts that you are watching?
Morello:
I love a band named Gogol Bordella. They're a great band. Their members are from the Ukraine and all sorts of exotic places. I like Connor O'berst. He's been making solo records though he used to records with Bright Eyes.

Examiner: What's next for you guys after this tour?
Morello:
The album comes out on June 16. Then, we will - it's likely that we will be doing another U.S. tour, a Street Sweeper U.S. tour in the late summer/early fall.
