Thai Festival 2008. To celebrate the 175th Anniversary of Thai-U.S. Diplomatic Relations, the Royal Thai Embassy is hosting a Thai Festival. The festival will bring the best of Thailand in arts, culture, and national treasures and will feature staged cultural and music performances, a parade, Thai cuisine and handicrafts, Thai massage, and Thai kick boxing. The Thai Festival will take place at Union Station in Washington, DC this Saturday and Sunday.
Fashion Olympics 08: The Race to Best Dressed. Lettie Gooch brings the first-ever "Fashion Olympics" to DC. Watch as participants compete in the Best Dressed Category, or join the fun by donning your most fashionable apparel and strutting your stuff. Everyone is a winner with Bronze, Silver and Gold Discounts throughout the store. The event will feature interactive fashion games, lively music, and refreshments. The Fashion Olympics takes place tonight from 6-9pm at the Lettie Gooch Boutique (1911 Ninth Street NW, Washington, DC).
Fourth Annual DC Poetry Festival. The 4th Annual DC Poetry Festival will take place on Saturday, August 23, at 7:25pm at the Carter Barron Amphitheatre (16th & Colorado Ave NW, Washington, DC). This year's show will be headlined by Ayanna Gregory, who combines R&B, jazz, gospel, and the blues in a powerful musical message. There will also be performances by Def Poets Tommy Bottoms and “Breeze.” The Johnny Artis Band will perform a musical tribute to those artists who graced the Howard Theatre stage. The event is free to the public however, donations are requested for the restoration of the Historic Howard Theatre.
Fort Dupont Summer Concert Series. Head out to Fort Dupont on Saturday, August 23, to see the D.C. Jazz featuring Marcus Johnson, with opening performances by Phaze II and David Bach Consort. The concert is free and will begin at 8pm, rain or shine. Feel free to bring refreshments, lawn chairs, and blankets; leave the glass, alcohol, and weapons at home.
