The much anticipated rollout of grassroots support based on the network established by the Obama campaign is ready to go according to a report in the Washington Post by Chris Cillizza. The group Organizing for America overseen by the DNC will launch an attempt to use the energy from the campaign to build grassroots support for the Obama agenda.

In the report Cillizza quotes David Plouffe, who was Obama's campaign manager and is now an adviser to OFA, called this effort the "first major engagement" of the group in the legislative process and said in a statement that it will call on supporters "to help the President win the debate between those who marched in lockstep with the failed Bush economic policies and now have no new ideas versus the Obama agenda which will help us manage the short term economic crisis and puts us on the path to long term prosperity."

In the first of a promised series of video messages (below) Mitch Stewart of Organizing for America outlines the Organizing Campaign Pledge Project. “The movement you built is just getting started. The Pledge Project will map out and identify support for Obama’s economic blueprint through email messages, knocking on doors, and phone calls. The debate in Washington is often disconnected from American. Stand up and be a part of national display of support. You will be taking the first step building a grassroots network, neighborhood by neighborhood; as Obama said change comes to Washington not from Washington.”

The campaign will be launched today in an email campaign asking supporters to go door-to-door Saturday to ask neighbors to sign a pledge in support of Obama’s budget plan.

The pledge drive will ask Americans to sign off on the following message:

President Obama's plan will rebuild and renew America by creating jobs and investing in the three areas most critical to our future:
  • Energy — Transforming America's economy to run on clean and renewable energy in order to create new American jobs and industries
  • Health care — Comprehensively reforming health care so that families, businesses, and government are relieved from the crushing costs that impede economic growth and prosperity
  • Education — Reforming and investing in America's education system so that citizens are prepared to compete in a global economy
Cillizza reports that Republicans are skeptical. "There is no better asset in politics today," Republican strategist Alex Vogel said of Organizing for America's e-mail database. "If mail lists made Karl Rove, e-mail and cell lists made Obama," he said, referring to the former White House deputy chief of staff. "But what good is a list if your message is bad?"
