Dinner with my family at
Ditka’s Restaurant proved to be a true adventure in dieting. As someone who eats a mostly plant based diet, going to a place where livestock goes to die was a bit daunting. Thought by some to have the best burger in Chicago, Ditka’s is a meat heaven and from what I can see, not the best place for a dieter. Dieting is a lifestyle choice and the occasional splurge can of course fit in with any plan; but for those of you who are looking to stick to a particular plan, you should look for dinner elsewhere.

Although this is a restaurant for the truly carnivorous, my entire family took advantage of the fish options on the menu. This is where you should always look if you are in a dieting bind. Fish, unless fried of course is almost always a calorie friendly option. My brother got salmon over stir fried vegetables which was ok; my mother, sister and I got the seared Ahi Tuna and my stepmom got the linguine diavolo. I have to say, I did not enjoy my meal. It was not the freshness or quality of the fish, I was just disappointed with how bland the dish seemed. It was a nice presentation, but nothing exciting in the taste department. Although I do not eat red meat, it left me wishing I had ordered something exciting and tasty like a burger since that is Ditka’s specialty.
In short, this is not the place to expect tasty, exciting food that one would be happy with on a diet. Although you can make good choices at this restaurant, they are by no means the highlight of the menu.
