Bobby Ryan is the newfound right winger who has clicked with multiple lines in the Ducks' roster. Initially, Ryan (age 22) was paired with Andrew Ebbett, and Finnish veteran, Teemu Selanne (age 39). However, after the first idea of putting newcomer (from the trade deadline) Christensen with the duo of Perry and Getzlaf, flopped, Bobby Ryan was bumped into the first line where magic happened.
Bobby Ryan was the runner up for the Calder trophy which is awarded to the league's best rookie. The honor was instead given to goalie Mason, who was undoubtedly deserving of the award.
The New Jersey native tallied an impressive 57 points this season (31+26) earning him ranking in the top five for five categories including points, goals, assists, powerplay goals, and game winning goals. For playing only 64 games in the season, it is absolutelyunheardof to come out with numbers like that in such a small number of games.
Ryan has been teased and tormented off the ice many a time for his young age (and his apparent acne) is always dropped when Ryan pulls out a goal like the one pictured above. Ryan is known for breaking records and throwing the rule book and the norm out the window. Ryan has pulled out goals while airborne, as well as breaking the rookie record for the fastest hat trick, which closed with his famous spin-o-rama goal that was voted as the best goal of the year (beating out goals by superstars such as Alex Ovechkin).
Bobby Ryan is sticking around for the next year and then he is a restricted free agent and of course expect to see the Ducks sign him for a healthy sized contract when he is no longer un a contract. Number 9 (formerly number 54) is an outstanding asset to the team and it would be an absolute shame to lose such young and promising talent.
