Ryan Getzlaf has been nicknamed such compliments as "The Franchise" with the reasoning that at only (as of recently) 24 years old, he is the first line center who they will be building their team around.
Ryan Getzlaf started off the season on a shakey note with only three points in the first nine games, however in the tenth game of the season against Detroit, Getzlaf assisted on all five of the Ducks' goals in the 5-4 victory.
After that breakthrough in game ten of the season, the Ryan Getzlaf we have come to know and love returned with a six game point streak following.
Getzlaf ended the year with an impressive 91 points (25+66=91) in the regular season, ranking him seventh, and another 18 points in the playoffs coming in sixth.
Ryan was not only known for being a key point-oriented player, but also, he was not afraid nor ashamed to take a couple minutes in the penalty box. Standing 6'4 and weighing in at 221 pounds, Getzlaf is a force to be reckoned with. The big number 15 was recently compared to well-known Shark forward, Joe Thornton in this NHL article. The article includes quotes from influential NHL coaches and players all of whom praise Getzlaf highly.
Getzlaf was one of three Anaheim Ducks voted into the Western Conference All Star team, along with Anaheim defender, Scott Neidermayer, and goaltender JS Giguere.
The native of Regina, Saskatchewan has tallied up some impressive career stats including 270 points in 297 games played in only four seasons with the Ducks. In his 56 career playoff games, he has racked up 47 points.
All in all, Ducks fans rejoice, the star forward is signed until the 2012-2013 season with a contract that is surprisingly similar to the contract signed by linemate and friend Corey Perry, the other half of Anaheim's "dynamic duo."
