The Anaheim Ducks we all have come to know and love are back in their rhythm after last night's 6-1 win over the Boston Bruins. For game highlights, click here.
The Ducks came out fighting with more poise and determination than in either of the other regular season games this year. For the first time of the season, Anaheim had crisp passing and more hard-nosed battles for the puck which came out in their favor.
The scoring was opened by the Bruins, the best team in the East last season, with Strum feeding a slap shot behind Anaheim netminder, Jonas Hiller. However after that one tick on the scoreboard, Anaheim would crank up the jets and would come out on top in a big way.
In the second period, Anaheim was on the better side of a 5-on-3 situation, and before both players were out of the box, Selanne would score two powerplay goals in less than 90 seconds. And with that, the second period scoring was not done. With less than seven minutes to go, Corey Perry took a beautiful pass from James Wisniewski and lifted the puck to the top shelf behind Tim Thomas.
In the closing period, Anaheim would tally up another three goals, starting at the six minute mark with a goal by Evgeny Artyukhin. With the lead stretched to 4-1, Anaheim was not done. With less than eight minutes remaining, Bobby Ryan tipped in a Neidermayer shot between his legs with the shaft of the stick finding a five-hole open on Thomas. Yet again, Anaheim was not done, and the circus of goals was not over. The final goal of the night was one that spread smiles all around Anaheim's bench. Corey Perry was unexpectedly killing a penalty, during which time he shorthandely broke away. The big number 10 shot the puck which continued to ricochet off goalie Tim Thomas, hit Perry in either the shoulder or the side of the head, and somehow find the back of the net. For sole purposes of entertainment, I prefer to story that it hit Perry in the head, to which I can only shake my head and say, "only in Hockey."
So on the whole, some fantastic goaltending on the part of Jonas Hiller, spectacular passing, and some well-deserved goals, while others rather humorous. With this momentum, Anaheim can only look forward to tomorrow night's game against Philadelphia.
