Sunday funnies on Wednesdays!

A little surprise in the mail: The first issue of Wednesday Comics, direct from DC.

If you need to catch up,  this is what this new comics product is all about: DC's going to spend pretty much the rest of the summer putting out a newspaper-funnies styled compendium of super-hero comics. Each one is about a page long and the stories run serial-style from week to week. Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are featured, but so are lesser-knowns including Kamandi, Metamorpho and Sgt. Rock. Reminds me of a thing called "Action Comics Weekly" that DC used to put out in the late 80s-early 90s - turned "Action Comics" into a weekly compendium of shorts featuring Superman, an older version of "Secret Six," and Wild Dog, among other characters.

The art is beautiful and the package evokes memories of reading Sunday funnies or pulpier comic books. Will the idea catch on? Are comics fans crying out for such stuff? Let's check on sales figures in a few weeks.
