They're back!

As if you weren't already distracted by DC's decision to revive a slightly older version of its 1980s hit, "The New Teen Titans" (now it's just "Titans), here comes Marvel with a bid to resusciate"The New Mutants."

Remember these guys? They arrived as a spin off of the popular "X-Men" back in the early 80s and lasted til the early 90s. As with "Teen Titans," the idea was to give younger readers their "own" version of more established teams like the X-folks or "Justice League of America." Based on how many times DC has stopped and started "Teen Titans" and "Titans," I'd surmise keeping these franchises going is harder than it may appear.

According to this preview available at Newsarama, it looks as if the team is being brought back together not for any organic reason, but just because having them together will sell a book. That's the same genesis of "Titans" over at DC, and it's not wearing well at all, in my humble opinion. That title is a mismatch of a popular creative concept and little proper work done to make it believeable or relevant for today's market.

But I digress: Yeah. New Mutants. Forgotten characters like Cannonball. Back together again for no reason. Hey, it's your hard-earned $3.99....
