The first part of knowing how to play fantasy football is knowing what the game is all about. Check that out here. You can find a thousand places to play fantasy football simply by entering "fantasy football" into a search engine. You'll also see some recommended places to play under the "play fantasy football" section on the right side of this page. But before you dive right in, you should know three things:
Know what you know:
What do you already know about football and fantasy football? You can choose to join a league where you already know all you need to know about the players and their statistics, or you may want to learn more.
Know what you don't know
Keep in mind any areas of football or fantasy football that you don't know much about. One option is to join a league where what you don't know doesn't apply to the league you're joining. Or you can learn more before beginning your competition.
Know what you want to know:
How complicated do you want to make things? Do you want to keep your options and strategy simple and obvious, or are you a serious competitor who wants your league to be as complex and realistic as possible? Join a league that will fulfill whatever level of competition and time commitment that makes you the most satisfied.
After that, there are just a few things to know that almost all fantasy football leagues have in common:
The draft: Leagues have to pick or assign players before the games start. You can choose to draft in order or via auction. Either way, the goal is to stock your starting lineup with players that can total more fantasy points than anybody else's team.
Scoring: It wouldn't be a game if we didn't keep score. Every league has scoring settings that you must know inside and out in order to take advantage of them.
Where you play: Whether you play online or in person, every place has a certain way of doing things. How much time do you have to pick a player? How do you put a player in the starting lineup? Learn the ins and outs well in advance of any competition.
