Bring the Outdoors In!
Poinsettias are beautiful and traditional so bring them inside. Consider filling vases with fresh flowers and holly. You could take a beautiful topiary and place fresh flowers on it with a wisp of holiday ribbon, perhaps gold or silver, around the topiary. Place the topiary in a beautiful vase or wrap the vase in holiday ribbon or paper-like a beautiful gift. Have you seen small trees made out of metal or wire? Add fresh cut red roses to them in a bowl with red apples and you have a beautiful holiday display. One of my favorite things to do is to use simple and beautiful kitchen bowls and displays for holiday décor such as taking fresh red roses, babies breath and holly leaves and displaying them on a raised cake plate. It makes a beautiful table centerpiece or a wonderful decorative touch for a buffet table. Place some votive candles around it and the lighting will set the mood.
I definitely believe in mixing modern, new and traditional décor at the holidays. For example, I love the fresh red roses mentioned above and wouldn’t think twice of adding candy canes in a beautiful bowl or vase in the same area.

What About Ornaments?
They are not just for the tree. Find some beautiful ornaments in a brilliant color like red, blue, sage green or white and place them on a silver serving tray or crystal bowl. I love to take various sized clear glass containers/vases and place one color of ornaments in a vase. The newest Pottery Barn catalog has a display that I love! There are 5 clear glass containers (odd numbers are always more balanced and pleasing to the eye) each filled with a single color of ornaments including red, deep green, blue, silver and a beautiful purple. Depending on the hue of purple, it looks great with gold or silver and is one of the hot colors that has trickled down from fashion design to home and now holiday décor. I love this photo that shows different cocktail glasses with ornaments placed in them….use an odd number of glasses and mix up not only the size of the glasses but also the ornaments. It would be a beautiful display. Use ornaments in unusual ways for memorable holiday designs.
