
The family cheers on Manny’s new interest—fencing. Surprisingly, Manny is quite masterful at the sport and Jay’s support for Manny brings up an old sore spot for Mitchell.
It turns out, Mitchell and Claire once used to be a figure skating team, but Claire dropped out right before a major competition, leaving Mitchell wounded with abandonment. Thanks to Cameron’s persistence, Mitchell confronts Claire regarding his feelings and the two reconcile, perhaps more than anyone ever expected.
Meanwhile, Phil attempts to bring out the best in his son, Luke. With baseball, Luke seems woefully inadequate. Fortunately, Phil discovers a possible hidden talent in selling houses, so he takes Luke on his next house showing. This—as it turns out—is not his talent. Still, with perseverance, Luke and Phil have their first successful game of catch.
As Manny gets closer to the fencing championship, Gloria and Jay discover Manny’s opponent is a diabetic orphan. Despite their attempts to signal Manny to back down gracefully, Manny experiences a crushing victory.
