It's that time of the year, and Miranda's father shows up after hearing from another family member that his daughter is divorced.
Mark's long lost daughter shows up at the hospital. 18 years old and a runaway, Mark is forced to become a new father figure while Lexie has to try and reconcile with the fact that she is only a few years older than the daughter.
Tension grows between Owen, Cristina and Teddy as Owen starts to deal with unresolved feelings for Teddy. Noticing this, Cristina starts to pull away. She admits to Owen that if he chooses Teddy, she understands. Owen ultimately firmly chooses Cristina and rejects Teddy, despite previous romantic feelings for Teddy.
Meredith becomes the Chief's new star pupil when--partly in an effort to appease his drinking secret--he offers to be her mentor. Despite warnings from her father, Meredith accepts the helpful training even as the Chief spirals further down with his alcoholism.
In the end, Miranda and her father reconcile after Miranda displays her feelings.
The episode takes place from Thanksgiving to New Year's day.
