Before Barack Obama had even completed his official announcement of Joe Biden as the VP choice, Biden's 2007 book, Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics was already flying off the shelves; by Sunday, sales of the book had reached number 31 on the amazon.com bestseller list and number 11 on the Barnes & Noble list. Random House is thanking its lucky stars: sales on Biden's book, which was released shortly after the Senator's brief and unremarkable bid at the presidency last year, were anything but inspiring. Now, particularly with the unblinking gaze of the media and the nation focused on the Democrats convening in Denver, both author and publisher will enjoy some very healthy sales. Hey, even if he doesn't get the VP gig, he'll be a best-selling author; I suppose it's arguable which is preferable.
