Find out more about Michelle: Michelle Kerns writes for a disturbingly eccentric collection of print and online publications. She watches the movie Hot Fuzz every Thursday night, passionately adores the literary character Melrose Plant, and believes strongly in the four food groups: red wine, white wine, Guinness, gin. Devoted Potter fans were finally able to get their hands on The Tales of Beedle the Bard at midnight sales and release parties around the United States and the United Kingdom beginning in the wee hours this morning.
There were several midnight release bashes at independent bookstores around the country (Huzzah!), and Borders UK held some fairly well-attended shin-digs for fans in London; however, don't fret, American fans, if you couldn't attend one of these -- Borders has announced that they are holding Beedle parties tonight at 6pm.
While it may not have the cache of a raucous midnight release, Borders' Beedle party does sound like it is going to be a hoot. The bash is to include a Harry Potter Challenge trivia competition (bring it on), arts and crafts activities, and a reading and discussion of the most famous of the wizarding tales included in the book, "The Tale of Three Brothers."
And if you're a teacher, librarian, professor, school administrator, homeschooler (Huzzah!), guidance counselor, or other educator, the evening will be extra sweet since Borders is also holding an Educator Holiday Shopping Event today. All educators with a Borders/Waldenbooks Educator Discount card, a school identification card, or a recent pay stub will receive 25% off of any regularly priced books, CDs, DVDs, gifts, stationary, or cafe items.
If you're planning on cutting a dash at a Beedle party tonight (or, if you've already been to one) and have some recriminating pictures, send them along to the Book Examiner at michellekerns@surewest.net !
If you've just begun reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard, why not share your literary rants and raves with the Book Examiner? All this week, a chapter by chapter commentary of the book will be posted on the Book Examiner site, along with any reader comments and reviews. SUBSCRIBE to get the commentaries by email, or visit here daily to talk with other Potter heads about the Beedle.
