Yesterday's article about Dick's Sporting Goods sparked a few questions from readers about my habit of carrying a firearm in Home Depot (mentioned at the end of the article).
Home Depot prohibits its employees from carrying firearms in the workplace, but it does not have a similar policy in place with respect to customers. Home Depot's policy is to follow state law, which in this case means that it will permit, in Georgia, openly carried or concealed handguns by patrons.
For those who want to see the confirmation of this policy, please see this pdf file of a letter from David Sandor, Director of Public Relations for The Home Depot, to John Harris, Executive Director of the Tennessee Firearms Association.
The Home Depot does not prohibit anyone who is legally permitted to carry firearms from entering our stores, provided the firearms are carried in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
The Home Depot has a long-standing policy prohibiting employees from carrying weapons in its stores. While they should reconsider leaving their employees defenseless, The Home Depot should be commended for recognizing its customers' inherent right of self defense.
