Colorado defeated the state version of the Dream Act today. The bill is Senate Bill 170, the bill would allow any student who attended Colorado high school for at least three years and graduated to attend public colleges and universities at the in-state tuition rate, regardless of their immigration status.

Democrats sleazed Republicans last week in committee by sneaking a vote when Republican Sen. Harvey was out of town attending to ailing relative. Today they were more considerate they delayed the vote so one of their own could join the vote. Of course they only delayed voting because she was voting for the bill.

The chief sleaze Sen. Romer said a “cancer of hopelessness” exist among such students, who can’t afford college (Denver Post April 6th, 2009).

"By rewarding those people who come here illegally with government services, we will only beget more illegal behavior in the future," Harvey said (Denver Post April 6th, 2009)

The bill was tied to the nightmare act I mean Dream act meaning the bill would be would only be become effective if the federal Dream Act was passed. That bill would also provide a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants who serve in the military or attend college in the United States.

Congratulations to Thornton Sen.-D Louis Tochtrop for voting against her party and voting to do the right thing. That independent leadership is fresh air to the sleaze politics Sen.-D Chris Romer.

I am saddened that the bill was this close. When are they going to represent Colorado Citizens.
