The Dream Act is a proposed federal legislation that was introduced in the US Senate and the US House of Representatives in March 26, 2009. The bill would provide illegal immigrant students, who graduated from an American High School, are of good moral character, arrived in the US as children, and have been the country continuously for at least five years prior to the bill’s enactment, the opportunity to earn conditional permanent residency. In fact La Raza promotes this bill on their web site saying:

“The DREAM ACT and the American Dream Act would address the challenges by restoring state rights to determine residency for in-state tuition and establish a path to obtaining legal status for immigrant youth.”

Other words this is back door way to gain Amnesty.

In a time of recession to promote this bill is pure arrogance. In Colorado there is a bill similar to the dream act which will cost the taxpayers an estimated 200 million dollars a year. Nationwide the combined cost would astronomical. Tell me why an illegal immigrant should get in state tuition when a legal student from out of state cannot? Or maybe a military dependant who is in a state with her military husband wants to go to school she has to pay out of state tuition, yet an illegal immigrant does not. This bill is unfair, expensive and allows those illegal’s to get status then be eligible to bring in all their relatives after citizenship, thus bringing in an estimated 200 additional people per person.

This bill does not help our citizens to get a College Degree it gives special status to illegal immigrants. We need to help our own people instead of some other countries unwanted or unable. When will our elected leadership look after its own contingents for a change?

Congressman Jared Polis-D of Colorado is a co-sponsor for this poor excuse of a bill.
