Annie Gasway was the 1st woman in 29:03.

Because events have a way of filling up while you ponder which race to do . . . here are a few events coming up that I wanted to put on your radar.

JANUARY 17 - InStep Icebreaker Indoor Marathon (Milwaukee WI) - This is a chance to do a unique race, have bragging rights to saying you did the inaugural one and help raise money to resurface the 443-meter track. According to their web site, the course isn’t USATF certified---yet.

MARCH 15 - St. Paddy's Day 5K & Leprechaun Leap (Chicago IL) - For the St. Patrick’s Day running purists---this is an event that is held pretty close to the actual holiday and organized by Chicago Special Events.

MARCH 29 – Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle(Chicago IL) - For 30 years this event has marked the "official" opening of the Chicagoland area racing season and it has grown---how much?  Last year's race had 22,573 finishers.  Registration is open and I recommend signing up for these reasons along 1) an excellent commitment to make now when my hands are freezing just typing this to help keep you on track with your Running Resolutions 2) great party atmosphere---all your running buddies and running folk take over downtown streets 3) Do-able distance for newbies and speedsters alike.  While I am neither a newbie or a speedster, I just registered.

APRIL 4 - Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon (Springfield IL) - The race starts at the Lincoln Museum and Library in downtown Springfield, winds past the old state capital where Abe Lincoln tried many cases, passes his home and then runs out to where he is buried.  What bettter way to mark this important year celebrating our 16th President.

APRIL 25 - CARA Lakefront 10 Miler (Chicago IL) - Last fall CARA bought this race from Universal Sole who resurrected it and it’s become a favorite springtime mid distance event.  The course will be along the lakefront (naturally).  Some things to note:  it’s not going to conflict with Fleet Feet’s Ravenswood 5K so once again, runners will have the opportunity to run both in one weekend. CARA member get a rather big registration saving benefit ($33 CARA members vs. $40 Non-Members. Online registration closes on April 17 and there will be no race day registration .

MAY 2 – Wisconsin Marathon & Half Marathon (Kenosha WI) - The race is an out-and-back course with organizers promising plenty of "cheesy" silliness along the way.  And would a Wisconsin event be without a post-race beer and brat party?
