It was a sight to behold! Meb Keflezighi won the ING New York City Marathon on Sunday in 2:09:15 becoming the first American man to earn the coveted crown since Alberto Salazar’s win back in 1982. (Note: this is a file photo of Meb from Flora London Marathon) How could there be a dry eye in the crowd as 2004 Olympic silver medalist gave the crowd a big thumbs up and pointed to his jersey with “USA” blazed across the front before breaking down in tears after he crossed the finish line. Most pundits thought it would be pre-race favorite Paula Radcliffe who would cross the finish line first, but it was two-time Olympic gold medalist Derartu Tulu, from Ethiopia, who surprised the field with her 2:28:52 victory.
