Despite nearly freezing temperatures at the 7:30 a.m. start this past Sunday, October 18, the cool weather and sunny skies made for near-perfect running conditions for a sold-out field of 15,000 runners and walkers participating in the 30th Nationwide Better Health Columbus Marathon and ½ Marathon and Corporate Wellness 5K.
Matt Folk of Perrysburg, OH won the event in 2:20:45. Second place went to Richard Kessio of Kenya in 2:20:50. Kessio was leading the race until Folk, 33, passed him in the final stretch of the race. (watch finish line video)
In the women's marathon race, Rachel Kinsman, 35, of Archbold, OH ran a dominating race to win in 2:47:44 and the runner-up was Maureen Bean Wrenn of Boulder, CO in 2:48:34.
TweetMyTime, a social media experiment that allowed participant's progress to be tweeted at various points along the course, sent out tweets for more than 2,000 participants who registered for the service. ---from race press release / www.runningusa.com
