Perry Romanowski can run a 20:34 race AND juggle!

With just one week to go until our big race which highlights 29 neighborhoods, over 2,300 runners showed up in the trendy Bucktown neighborhood for Running Away Multisport’s popular 5K run on Sunday. The weather was beautiful--sunny skies with temperatures in the high 50s as runners chatted with each other before the new race start at Burr Elementary School. Top finishers were Ryan Giuliano, 23 in 15:33 and Christina Overbeck, 22, in 18.05. Both men’s and women’s races came down to the finish stretch on Wabansia as Mickey Wilson, Mike McGovern and Lars Uhl ran side by side behind Giuliano but couldn’t catch the local Pro Triathlete.  He maintained his lead finishing seven seconds in front of this pursuers.  It was on the same final stretch down Wabansia where Overbeck, a recent Calvin College grad who ran a 18:03 at the Blackhawks 5K Mad Dash to Madison, passed Vanessa McGovern and Bridget Montgomery to win by 10 seconds. Race notes: There was an Olympian in the field. Paul McMullen, from Michigan, is a two time U.S. National Champion in the 1500m (3:33.89 PR) and competed in the 1996 Olympic Games finished 8th overall. When he told me he had biked 50 miles the day before, I replied “It looks like you might have a triathlon in your future.” And he agreed.  Race photos!
