Only four regular-season games remain in the Metrodome's storied history.
And then there will be only memories, such as those World Series wins back in 1987 and 1991 -- when you could make a case for the Twins' white-roofed home being the noisiest stadium in captivity.
And then one of the biggest home-field advantages in the majors will be gone -- replaced by an outdoor facility in downtown Minneapolis.
But before we say goodbye to a place Twins' opponents hate to visit, the Twins are making one more run at a late-September to remember. They're charging hard at the faltering Detroit Tigers, and with a win on Saturday have cut four games off their deficit in the American League Central race -- from six games down to two, even without Justin Morneau's powerful bat in the lineup.
Saturday's comeback win was marked by a ball lost in the roof by Detroit outfielder Don Kelly -- the Metrodome getting one last laugh, perhaps?
The Twins have pulled off this type of late charge before, overtaking the Tigers in 2007, and they have one more shot at Detroit on Sunday in the Metrodome, and four more in the second-to-last series of the season.
The Tigers have six more road games on this trip -- three each in Cleveland and Chicago, then finish at home with three each against Minnesota and Chicago.
