Tentative Arizona Fall League rosters were released today in Baseball America's online edition, and the Phoenix Desert Dogs just became a lot more popular.
That's because No. 1 overall pick Stephen Strasburg is listed on their roster, and figures to make several appearances. Strasburg recently signed a record $15-million-plus deal with the Washington Nationals.
The Desert Dogs are one of the six teams in the AFL, which plays a six-week-long season that runs from just after MLB's regular season until mid-November. They will play their home games at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, spring home of the Oakland A's.
Top prospects from all 30 MLB organizations are sent to the AFL, and also are split among rosters for the Mesa Solar Sox, Peoria Javelinas, Peoria Saguaros, Surprise Rafters and Scottsdale Scorpions.
Other notable players' roster assignments: Buster Posey (Scottsdale), Dustin Ackley (Peoria Javelinas), Jason Heyward (Peoria Saguaros), Josh Vitters (Mesa).
