As the busiest travel day of the year unfolds, a storm will begin to develop off the Southeast coast that will have a significant impact on travel and shopping conditions for many on "black" Friday.
This morning, the combination of a ridge over New England and a strong low pressure system over the Great Lakes is producing a persistent easterly wind over New Jersey. The easterly flow extends from the surface to 700 MB, which is pushing a marine air mass into the Garden State. As a result, overcast skies and a risk of a few scattered showers will continue through this afternoon and into the evening hours.
This morning's water vapor satellite image has plenty of interesting key features that will have a major impact on New Jersey the next several days. The one feature that stands out is the convection over Florida and the eastern Gulf of Mexico this morning. This area of moisture is a disturbance in the Sub Tropical jet stream that will ride north over the next three days. Today: Overcast to broken cloud cover with widely scattered showers in the afternoon. Winds will be from the east around 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will rise into the lower to mid 50's over the interior and mid to upper 50's along the coast.
Tonight: Overcast to broken skies. Winds will be from the north around 5 to 15 mph. Temperatures will fall into the lower 40's over the interior and mid 40's along the coast.
Thanksgiving: Broken to overcast clouds with winds from the north around 5 to 10 mph. Rain developing in the late evening with winds increasing from the northeast around 10 to 20 mph. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 50's over the interior and upper 50's to lower 60's along the coast.
Thursday Night: Rain, heavy at times along the coast, with winds from the northeast around 5 to 15 mph over the interior and 10 to 20 mph along the coast with higher gusts. Temperatures will fall into the lower to mid 40's throughout the region.
Friday: Rain, mixing with snow at times in the afternoon. Winds will back to the north around 10 to 20 mph. Temperatures will rise into the upper 40's to lower 50's in the morning and then fall through the 40's and 30's through the afternoon and evening hours.

Saturday: Scattered to broken clouds. Low temperatures will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's over the interior and lower to mid 30's along the coast. High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 40's over the interior and mid to upper 40's along the coast.
Sunday: Scattered clouds. Low temperatures will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's over the interior and mid to upper 30's along the coast. High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 40's over the interior and upper 40's to lower 50's along the coast.
Monday: Broken cloud cover with scattered showers. Low temperatures will range from the upper 20's to lower 30's over the interior and mid to upper 30's along the coast. High temperatures will range from the upper 40's to lower 50's over the interior and upper 50's to lower 60's along the coast.
