Dry conditions are finally returning after a very wet period of weather for much of New Jersey. The
rainfall event that impact the Garden State yesterday lead to some impressive rainfall with even a record set for Atlantic City with 2.21" of rain, which was officially recorded by the National Weather Service. Rainfall amounts ranged generally from 1 to 2 inches for much of central and northern New Jersey, however where a strong low level boundary took hold off the southern New Jersey coast, rainfall amounts were heavier with amounts exceeded 2 inches in many locations. The following are official rainfall amounts:
Atlantic City: 2.21" R Hightstown: 1.29"
Trenton: 0.98" Sussex: 1.02"
Cape May: 2.01"
Freehold: 1.30"
Much drier conditions can be expected for today through much of Saturday afternoon as high pressure over New England establishes control over the forecast area. Scattered clouds and temperatures near normal can be expected today and tomorrow as a southeasterly wind keeps a marine air mass in place. However, on Friday night the high pressure system will slide to the east of the Mid Atlantic and will lead to a developing south to southwesterly wind. As a result, much warmer conditions will return to New Jersey on Saturday with highs rising into the 60's and 70's throughout New Jersey, perfect for Trick or Treating in the afternoon.
A strong yet slow moving cold front will move through New Jersey on Saturday night with periods of moderate to heavy rain along with embedded thunderstorms. A weak low pressure system will develop along the cold front on Sunday morning, keeping rain over much of New Jersey through Sunday morning.
Strong high pressure from the Ohio Valley will build into New Jersey on Sunday night with clearing skies through the evening. High pressure will remain in place Monday through Wednesday with dry and cool conditions. Temperatures through the period will average 3 to 6 degrees below normal to start November as a Polar air mass briefly moves into the northern Mid Atlantic.
