Another iPhone App has critics in a twitter -- on Twitter and beyond.
"AMP Up Before You Score" promotes Pepsi's AMP energy drink by telling guys how to score with women based on two dozen "types" provided by the application.
For example, if a women is into "green" and a guy needs to find a vegan restaurant or localvore store, the app points the way.
Advice for guys hitting on the Political Girl includes, "If she's bi-partisan, you might be able to pull off a threesome."
For codependents drawn to Goth Girls, there are links to lessons on vampires, depression and goth bands.
AMP is marketed primarily to men and the app provides similar tips for winning the affections of 24 types of woman, from the Aspiring Actress, Artist and Cougar to Rebound Girl, Twins and Women's Study Major.
There is also a Brag List feature users are encouraged to use to keep and share notes after they score -- or not.
Women, largely, have branded the app "unacceptable," "ridiculously offensive" and "stereotyping." The AMP app also has spawned a "hash tag" on Twitter, "#pepsifail".
A searchable hash tag, created with the keyboard symbol for number "#" followed by a word or phrase, lets Tweeters follow a given topic, often to trash it, champion it or otherwise stay plugged into it.
For example, "Grearson" tweets: "To apologize for the AMP campaign but not remove the App yet--is GROSS. #pepsifail http://bit.ly/17oJJB."
Even men are bashing the AMP app.
Says "Brad_Kraft" "RT @prblog Wow. AMP's #pepsifail you have crossed the proverbial line. Oops http://bit.ly/1eLbRw."
But, the YouTube video ad for the AMP app is nearly 100,000 hits and a sizable number of Tweeters, including women, are asking for equality.
"Bridgetcarey" writes "Dear Pepsi: Your Amp Up iPhone app is genius and hysterical. Ignore those #pepsifail haters. Now make one for the ladies to use on guys."
And gays. Don't forget gays.
